Guild Wars 2 Reveals Combat Specifics and “The Elementalist”

By: Tiffany Nevin

NCSoft released more specifics on Guild Wars 2 today, on what you can expect from combat. They also gave the media details on the Elementalist profession.

So, what can you expect from Guild Wars 2?

Very visual combat, first of all. Your character can turn into a tornado or summon birds of prey to peck your enemies – to death. Another tactic discussed involves creating giant stone hands to crush your enemies.

You’ll also be able to combine attacks from different professions. Examples given include shooting arrows through a wall of fire to rain fire down upon your opponents, as well as being able to send pets through poison clouds to make your enemies sick.

The Elementalist (pictured), the first profession reveal for the game, is able to choose their abilities based on what’s around them. Turn a boulder into a meteor storm or take control of siege weapons. The Elementalist is able to make the environment do their bidding. The four basic elements (Earth, Air, Fire and Water) empower her as well as add strength to multiple kinds of spells.

NCSoft also discussed the skill system, which starts you off with a basic set of skills, but you are able to add more based on your character’s race and profession. You can also learn healing skills and a special elite skill.
